Pac-12 breakout star – Cal WR, Carlos Strickland

You can’t teach size or speed and Cal redshirt freshman wide receiver Carlos Strickland has them both in spades. At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Strickland is a match-up nightmare who’s too big for cornerbacks and too fast for safeties and linebackers. After a redshirting to add some extra lbs, Strickland is poised to become a breakout star in the Pac-12 in 2016.

At Texas powerhouse Skyline High School in Dallas, not only did Strickland light up the stat sheet with 27 career touchdowns, he was a winner, leading Skyline to a 51-6 record, including a perfect record of 28-0 in district or region games. As a recruit, he was a consensus four-star, top-200 player with over 20 Power 5 offers and he participated in the prestigious Semper Fi All-America Game. After a brief commitment to Texas Tech, he changed his mind and decided to go west, committing to California a few days prior to National Signing Day.

The biggest reason for fans in Berkeley to get excited about Strickland is his potential in the red zone. Given his massive frame, body control and leaping ability, he is almost un-coverable near the goal line and might just shock the world with double-digit touchdown grabs this season. In addition to his prowess in the red zone, Strickland is a big target who will be effective at moving the chains by working the middle of the field which should help whomever wins the starting quarterback job.

After losing most of their receiving corps and their superstar quarterback, Jared Goff, many people are down on the Cal Bears this season. However, former Texas Tech graduate transfer quarterback Davis Webb has already enrolled at Cal and could immediately help fill Goff’s void. At the receiver position, no offense to the four graduating seniors, Kenny Lawler, Bryce Treggs, Darius Powe and Maurice Harris, but none of them are as physically gifted as Carlos Strickland.

This fall look for potential breakout star Carlos Strickland on the outside, he’ll be the biggest wide receiver on the field!
