When to Go to Volleyball Camps for Recruiting
Players get sent camp brochures starting their freshman year of high school. This is the soonest NCAA coaches can do so. Getting a brochure from a college program doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting recruited – especially if you haven’t had contact with them beforehand. Before you register for a camp, take a look at these tips to help you decide which volleyball camps to attend and when to go:
- Identify your goal. Whether you’re looking to have fun, brush up your skills, or get recruited, making sure your expectations are aligned is important.
- Attend camps for schools/campuses you want to visit. Think of the camp as an opportunity to see what the school is like; see the campus; talk to staff, etc. Your research should be done and your list of potential schools created before you attend a camp.
- If you know, you should go. If you already know you’re getting recruited by a college coach, you should attend the camp for the same reasons above.
- Only attend camps hosted by coaches you have spoken to. Camps are a great way to get in front of college coaches, but make sure they know you’ll be there. Otherwise, their attention may be elsewhere.
