Berry College, founded in 1902 and located in Mount Berry, Floyd County, Georgia, is a private liberal arts college. Berry College has a student enrollment of approximately 2,100. The college’s academic programs are divided into the following schools: the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences, the Evans School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. Berry College also has an Honors Program as well as an academic support center that offers counseling and tutoring. The college offers three bachelor degrees, two master’s degrees and one education specialist degree. In addition to academics, Berry College has an exceptional work experience program with over 300 different jobs, giving all students a chance to hold a job while attending college.

Athletics Department at Berry College

The Berry College’s Athletics Department offers varsity sports programs in an environment that encourages competition and cooperation. With student-athlete support services such as sports medicine and academic guidance, all student-athletes are encouraged to reach their full potential.

Athletics facilities at Berry College include the Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center which has a gymnasium, a fitness center, an indoor track, racquetball courts, and classrooms. In addition, there is also the William R. Bowdoin Field for baseball, the Berry Cross Country Course, the Gunby Equine Center, the Stonebridge Golf Club, the Ford Field, and the Richards Tennis Courts.

Athletic Programs at Berry College

Berry College offers the following varsity sports: men’s baseball, golf, cross country and track soccer, basketball, lacrosse, swimming and diving, football, and tennis, as well as women’s golf, equestrian, lacrosse, soccer, swimming and diving, softball, basketball, cross country and track, tennis, and volleyball. The varsity teams are supported by a cheerleading team. There are also intramural sports as well as plenty of outdoor recreational activities to encourage students to stay active.

Official Sports Team: The Berry Vikings

The Berry Vikings are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and compete in the Southern Athletic Association Conference. The women’s soccer team holds three national championships; the equestrian team won one national championship, and women’s basketball one championship. The teams have also won many conference championships – 7 in the past 2 years alone. The Viking student-athletes also participate in community service projects.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships at Berry College

Scholarships at Berry College include merit awards, transfer scholarships, need-based awards, departmental scholarships, as well as scholarships that recognize community service involvement. All incoming freshmen students are automatically considered for merit scholarships based on their admissions application. Eligibility depends on cumulative GPA, and SAT or ACT scores. Transfer scholarships are also automatically awarded to students who are transferring to Berry College. Like the scholarships for incoming freshmen, GPA is the main determining factor. Departmental scholarships are available in music, communications, and the theater. Moreover, there are also need-based awards available for students who need financial assistance in order to complete their degree. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid in order to be considered for eligibility. Other scholarships include the Bonner Scholars Program for students who are actively involved in community service, the Leadership Fellows Scholarship, and the Gate of Opportunity Scholarship.
