Bemidji State University Athletic Scholarships

Bemidji State University takes its name from The Lake Bemidji of Minnesota. This public state university is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU). It is mostly known for comprehensive programs that focus on writing, since the university offers the only Bachelor of Fine Arts in Professional and Creative Writing in the system.

Bemidji State University has three colleges, mainly centering on Arts and Sciences, Business, Technology and Communications, Health Sciences and Human Ecology. The university also offers graduate programs, online studies and integrative programs. With about 5300 students coming from 44 different states, the campus holds a racially diverse student body.

Athletics Department of Bemidji State University

Bemidji State University athletic teams are members of the NCAA and compete at Division II. Their men and women’s ice hockey, however, compete at the Division I level. They are also part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Bemidji State University has three main facilities where college athletic teams train and hold sporting events. These are the Physical Education Complex, Sanford Center and the Chet Anderson Stadium. The Physical Education Complex comprise of the John S. Glas Fieldhouse, BSU Gymnasium and the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center. These are the home venues of the basketball, volleyball, track, hockey and tennis teams.

BSU offers state-of-the-art facilities, fully equipped and managed by trained staff to help athletes reach their full potential in their chosen sport. Other than these facilities, Bemidji State University also provides athletic training so student-athletes can learn more about care, injury prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of injuries sustained from practices and matches. The training room is complete with technology and equipment necessary for treatment, such as a hydrocollator, whirlpools, treatment tables and more.

Athletic Programs of Bemidji State University

Bemidji State University supports a wide array of sports for men and women. The men’s division competes in games like basketball, baseball, golf, football and ice hockey. Women compete in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, volleyball, track and field, tennis and ice hockey.

OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: BSU Beavers

The Beavers is the official sports team of the Bemidji State University athletic group, and they compete in the National College Athletic Association (NCAA), mostly on the Division II level. Although supporting different sports teams, Bemidji State University found most of its success with their men and women’s ice hockey teams, which compete at Division I. The team’s on-ice success roots from 1968, when the Beavers won the NAIA national ice hockey championships nine times. After winning a series of titles in the past, the Beavers continue to impress upon moving to the West Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and finishing at the Final Five.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Bemidji State University

The Beaver Pride is the official organization supporting the athletic teams of Bemidji State University. They are the “team behind the teams”, providing funding for scholarships of student-athletes.

The organization accepts donations from the community, which in turn will be used to buy new equipment or renovate existing facilities for use of the college teams. Better facilities greatly help in the training of athletes before they compete in intercollegiate events.

Proper funding helps new student-athletes in continuing their pursuit of excellence in both fields of academics and athletics. Over the years, students have greatly benefited from these grants, and the organization continues to bring in new student-athletes into Bemidji State University through consistent donations.
