Georgia Baseball Cited For Text Message Violation

A text message that Georgia baseball coach Scott Stricklin returned accidentally to a recruit will keep him from telephone contact with any recruits for two weeks.

This is a significant penalty for one text message. Georgia has a history of reporting numerous phone call and text message violations, so perhaps this is not the first one this year for Georgia’s baseball team. Multiple violations of the same rule by the same program within a year raises the severity of the violation. In addition to no contact with any recruits for two weeks, Georgia is prohibited from contacting that specific recruit for a month.

Starting August 1, all these rules go away for baseball. On that date, Proposal 2013-26 will become effective. That will allow baseball coaches, along with a number of other sports, to make unlimited text messages and phone calls to not just seniors but juniors in high school as well.
