Ole Miss Preparing to Self-Impose WBB Sanctions
Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork essentially confirmed to Hugh Kellenberger of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger that Ole Miss is treating the ongoing women’s basketball investigation as a major violation:
“There’ll be a formal notice of allegations from the NCAA that will come to us when the investigation is completed and then there’ll be a process through the committee on infractions or there could be another process that we could go through. And those things are yet to be determined.”
Ole Miss is expecting a Notice of Allegations and dealing with the Committee on Infractions at some point. That means at the very least, the violations are considered to be serious secondary violations. In those cases, the NCAA enforcement staff forwards the allegations to the Committee on Infractions who decides if they should be processed as major or secondary violations.
The “other process” Bjork mentions could also be summary disposition, which is used in major infractions cases. And as a result of the seriousness of the allegations and what Ole Miss has discovered already, the school is considering self-imposed sanctions. That further adds fuel to the fire that Ole Miss expects this to be a major violation.
