NCAA Tennis Causes Trouble For Georgia Football

Georgia football’s offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will be banned from football recruiting off-campus for one month due to a secondary violation involving the NCAA Tennis Championships last spring:

The violation: escorting a recruit and his mother into the NCAA Tennis Championships on the UGA campus last spring without having them pay the $8 admission fee.

“A member of the ticket office staff reported this incident to the compliance office,” [Georgia AD Greg] McGarity wrote. “… The family has been notified and subsequently submitted restitution in the amount of $20.”

As McGarity’s letter reporting the violation to the SEC notes, that violates Bylaw 13.7.2.4, which allows prospects on unofficial visits to receive complimentary admission only to regular season, home events. The workaround, at least on an official visit where the same rule applies, is to use the entertainment money to buy tickets for the prospect, student host, and guests.
