Field Hockey is one of only 2 sports in the NCAA which are exclusive to women, the other is softball and there are also a number of "emerging sports" being considered.

The NCAA added 12 women's sports in the 1981-82 college year. The first national championship events were held in Nov. 21-22, 1981, in cross-country and field hockey. NCAA  field hockey championships have been held in all three NCAA divisions since that time.

Prior to the the NCAA championship the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) conducted national championships in many sports, including field hockey.

The first AIAW national college field hockey championship was held in 1975. Division II and III championships were added in 1979. The AIAW held its final championships during the 1981-82 school year.

In its efforts to continually raise the level of field hockey in the United States, US Field Hockey introduced  its Olympic Development initiative -- The Futures Program -- in 1990. This elite program features more than 4,000 athletes participating in specialized monthly training sessions.

Through Futures, US Field Hockey evaluates and identifies talented young athletes with the potential to become future Olympic level athletes. All athletes must enter the program through a trial procedure. Depending on where an athlete resides, different options are available.

Get recruited and play college field hockey

We can help you get recruited and play NCAA field hockey. Our website is full of information and resources to help guide you through the recruiting process.

A good place to start is the FIELD HOCKEY SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AND STATISTICS  page.

You might be the best field hockey player at your school but if your not in the top 3% then don't expect the NCAA field hockey coaches to come to you and offer you a field hockey scholarship; you have to make it happen and apply to as many colleges as possible.

This is where we come into the picture; we will prepare a professional resume on your behalf and send it to every NCAA field hockey coach in division 1 and 2. We can also send your athletic profile to NAIA colleges as well.

Remember, you wont make your dream come true if you don't do everything you possibly can to get recruited. You must have a detailed, professional athletic resume prepared and you must get it into the hands of the NCAA field hockey coaches.

We do this for you, it's fast, efficient and above all it allows you to compare scholarship offers from many different colleges.

103 NCAA field hockey coaches will  have your resume and will be reading about you.
