The student-athlete must
have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought
credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate
athletics. The student-athlete also must have the intention to continue
academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or
part-time graduate student. Giesler also has Olympic aspirations, as she will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Olympic Track and Field Trials July 15 in Sacramento, Calif. Giesler closed her collegiate career with back-to-back NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships appearances. Giesler became the first female IU All-American in the 3,000m Steeplechase, after she placed 11th with a time of 10:35.98. After winning the 2003 Big Ten 3,000m steeplechase title with a record time of 10:14.19, she took second in the event at the Big Ten Championships with a second-place finish. The 2003 Tichenor Award winner as the Hoosier female student-athlete with the highest grade point average, Giesler has twice earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Verizon Academic All-District honors and was a 2003 Academic All-American. In cross country, Giesler earned all-league honors as a junior and senior and helped the Hoosiers to their first back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances since 1989-90. Dennison has been named to the 2004 Verizon/CoSIDA University Division Women's At-Large Academic All-District V and All-American teams. The sports marketing and management major is coming off a successful senior season. She won two individual titles during the 2003-04 campaign at the Shootout at the Legends and the Indiana Invitational, and helped the team win the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. Dennison was also a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection who earned a sponsor’s exemption to compete in the 2003 Giant Eagle LPGA Classic. She finished with a 153 (75-78), missing the cut by eight strokes. Medal of Honor, presented each year to a male and female senior student-athlete at each league institution who maintained an outstanding scholastic rating and who distinguished themselves in athletic endeavors.
