christopher newport university Christopher Newport University is a thriving, dynamic school where students find the best of all worlds: The dedicated professors and small classes that are the hallmark of a private liberal arts education, the low costs of a public university, and wonderful facilities that few institutions can rival.
Undergraduate and graduate programs at Christopher Newport University include more than Eighty academic majors and programs, ranging from accounting to theater arts, management to social work. Our Four thousand eight hundred students come from every region in Virginia, Thirty two other states, and several foreign nations. The College is located in Newport News, Virginia, close to some of the country's most significant historic sites and some of its best beaches. On the 260-acre campus, you will find boundless energy and state-of-the-art buildings—including new residence halls and apartments and an arts center. The school is the youngest comprehensive university in the Commonwealth, CNU was founded in 1960 as a 2 year branch of the College of William and Mary. The College became independent in 1977 and gained university recognition in 1991. Today, Christopher Newport University combines a traditional liberal arts and sciences curriculum with contemporary teaching ideologies and an emphasis on growing leaders of the future. |
Christopher Newport University is a member school of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and part of the USA South Atlantic Conference. Sports offered are: Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Cross Country, Women's Field Hockey, Football, Men's Golf, Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, Sailing. Men's soccer, Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball.
