Fort Lewis College

Fort Lewis College is Colorado's public liberal arts college, the school focuses on undergraduate education, offering quality baccalaureate degree programs in the sciences, arts and professional areas of business and education.

 

The College has an enduring commitment to maintain and develop its programs at a level equal to those of other outstanding undergraduate institutions in the nation. Fort Lewis College has an approximate enrollment of four-thousand five-hundred students.

The College offers a number of programs leading to the bachelor’s degree. The Bachelor of Science degree is offered in geology, biology, chemistry and physics; the Bachelor of Arts degree is granted in all other 4-year programs. In addition, the College offers a program leading to the Associate of Arts degree in agricultural science.

The college is located in Durango, Colo. among the San Juan Mountains, is a Division II institution that is affiliated with the NCAA. The Skyhawks are a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, which sponsors fourteen institutions (ten in Colorado, 2 in Nebraska, 1 in Kansas, and 1 in New Mexico).

Fort Lewis College is home to 10 varsity programs: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, football, volleyball, golf and softball.

The Skyhawk football team competes at Ray Dennison Memorial Field which seats four-thousand spectators. The men's and women's soccer teams compete at the Dirks Field which holds one-thousand five-hundred fans. Fort Lewis volleyball and basketball teams compete in the newly renovated Whalen Gymnasium which seats 2,750 people. Aspen Field at the Fort Lewis Community Softball Complex is home to the softball team, while the golf team practices and competes at nearby Hillcrest Golf Course.

Fort Lewis College has been a member of the RMAC since the 1968-69 season. During 1991-93, the men's and women's soccer programs joined the Colorado Athletic Conference for a brief period, while football and men's and women's basketball remained a part of the RMAC.
