University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a thirty-six-year-old comprehensive, metropolitan university and medical center that encompasses eighty-two city blocks and has a student enrollment of more than seventeen thousand UAB also is home to a large graduate school, a world-renowned health care complex and more than seventy research centers. The institution focuses on such diverse issues as AIDS vaccines and aging to the environment, telecommunications and urban affairs.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham also offers numerous services and programs that enhance student education, including the Honors Program, Study Abroad, Co-op Program, Career Center and academic support services. With the City of Birmingham in their back yard, UAB students have enormous opportunity for internships, jobs and valuable hands-on experience. There are more than two hundred organizations on campus ranging from academic clubs and volunteer groups to fraternities, sororities and special interest groups.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers are Birmingham’s hometown team, sparking excitement throughout the year with a full schedule of sports action. The college is a  member of the NCAA’s Division I and Conference USA, UAB fields 17 intercollegiate men’s and women’s teams in 13 sports
