Benedict College Athletic scholarships

Benedict College, founded in 1870 and located in Columbia, South Carolina, is a private liberal arts post-secondary educational institution. It is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA and has a co-educational student body of approximately 2,500. Historically, the institution was a black teacher’s college, but today it is a multiracial four-year college. Benedict College offers traditional academic programs such as certificate, associate and bachelor degree programs and also offers continuing education opportunities for non-traditional students. Today, students can work towards one of 29 undergraduate degrees from 12 academic departments. In addition to academics, Benedict College also has many student groups and organizations, as well as a thriving tradition in athletics.

Athletics Department at Benedict College

The Athletics Department at Benedict College offers varsity sports as its main athletic programs. In addition, the department also offers athletic training and academic support services for its student-athletes. In cooperation with the Counseling and Testing Center, the Athletics Department has academic monitoring and study sessions for student-athletes to ensure their academic success and consistent improvement.

Athletics facilities at Benedict College include a baseball field, the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium for football, the HRC Arena for basketball and volleyball, and the Martin Luther King Park for softball.

Athletic Programs at Benedict College

Athletics programs at Benedict College include men’s and women’s varsity sports. The teams include men’s and women’s basketball, softball, cross country, baseball, track and field, soccer, golf, handball, volleyball, tennis, cheerleading, as well as a marching band. There is also a men’s football team. Benedict College does not offer intramural sports, club sports, or group exercise classes.

Official Sports Team: Tigers

The Benedict College varsity teams are known collectively as the Tigers. They are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II and compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Championships include one minority college golf championship, four women’s basketball SIAC championships, ten men’s basketball SIAC championships, one women’s cross country SIAC championship, one softball SIAC championship, and one outdoor track and field SIAC championship. In addition to athletic excellence, the Benedict Tigers also excel academically.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships at Benedict College

For students at Benedict College to be eligible for financial aid, they must be enrolled in 12 credit hours as a full-time student and must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as well as the Net Price Calculator. Scholarships at Benedict College include the Trustee Club Scholarship, the Trustee Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship, and the Academic Excellence Scholarship. For students who live on-campus, there are also the Palmetto Fellows S.C LIFE Scholarship and the S.C. Hope Scholarship. All of these merit awards are renewable with the exception of the S.C. Hope Scholarship. Scholarships range in value from $5,000 to $17,000 annually. There are also many external scholarships that students may apply for. Athletic scholarships are available in all varsity sports and are awarded on the basis of outstanding athletic performance as determined by the coaches.
