NCAA Publishes Tips for Top Five Recruited Countries
For years, the NCAA has published the Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility. At around 200 pages, it covers every country for which the NCAA has translated its initial eligibility standards to a foreign educational system. But it is not exactly user-friendly.
If the Guide to International Academic Standards is the Bible for international recruiting, the NCAA has started to introduce prayer books. The Eligibility Center recently put out “A Compliance Administrator’s Academic Tips for the Top 5 Most Recruited Countries.” Those countries are:
- Australia
- Brazil
- Canada
- Germany
- United Kingdom
The tips include which documents to look for, how core GPA is calculated, when the school year runs (especially important in the Southern Hemisphere), when students graduate, and any other important information. Something key for administrators, coaches, and recruits to note are the transitions currently underway in Brazil (from 11 to 12 years of education) and Germany (from 13 to 12 years of education).
Any student from these countries should read the tips. At the very least, it will let them know what the Eligibility Center is looking for, so that surprises and unexpected delays can be avoided. Prospects who review the document and see something out of order with their own educational path or records should investigate further right away.
